Science for a Healthier and Better Life

SCBA held its 12th International Symposium at the Conference Centre of the Academia Sinica, Taipei, June 14 to 18, 2009.  The SCBA is the largest professional society for Chinese bioscientists in United States and Canada.  This was the second time SCBA holds its biennial meeting in Taipei, Taiwan.  The first one was held in Taipei in 2001. The 2009 International Symposium was organized by SCBA and the Academia Sinica (AS), with principal sponsorship from AS, the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), the China Medical University and Hospital, the College of Medicine of the National Taiwan University. About 1,200 scientists from the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Singapore had participated in this 3 ½ day conference.

The principal theme of this unique meeting was “Science for a Healthier and Better Life” and it featured various distinquished scientists including Members of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the Academia Sinica of Taiwan and the Chinese Academy and Institutes and about 150 invited speakers who were leaders in cutting-edge research and development in biological, medical and biotechnological sciences.  These scientists presented their research and hypothesis in four plenary sessions and 32 different workshops and specail sessions and 100 poster presentations from scientists, investigators and students from various parts of the world. 

The 2009 SCBA International Symposium is organized by the Team of the Elected Officers and the Executive Director, a Scientific Program Committee of distinguished bioscientists, and a Local Organizing Committee of directors and adminstrative officers from established local institutes.
